Wedding AV – Speeches, PA, Videos and Screens

So you have everything sorted for your big day, but there’s one thing you might have missed.

Audio Visual on your big day is often overlooked, but yet very essential. Whether it be microphones for the best man speech or loudspeakers for your Dad’s dance floor moves. The two most common requested AV requirements at weddings are PA systems for speeches and presentation equipment to display media content.

The wedding speeches are often a much anticipated part of the day and one that the people involved may be nervous about.  Having a PA system so they can be heard without having to shout takes one of the worries away. Often, all that is required is a simple speaker system with a microphone. Its cost effective and makes a big difference on the day. They are simple to put together and use, so can be quickly setup prior to the wedding breakfast and if required can be dismantled before the evening event. A simple cable will allow you to connect an iPod for background music to a larger system, which are great for discos you can connect your laptop and have a playlist ready to go.

The second most popular request is a screen for showing photos or videos. Often the best man has come up with something special for his speech and needs a screen to show visuals.  There are a few things to bear in mind when requesting a projector and screen.  Is there adequate space to front project onto the screen?  Do you have enough height so a large screen can be lifted far enough off the floor so people’s heads don’t get in the way?  Do you have sound on the video that you want to play and need to connect it to a PA system? These issues can normally be resolved but its definitely worth thinking about in advance.

A mistake people often make is requesting a projector screen to display their pictures and videos in a marquee, due to the amount of day light in a marquee the visibility of the screen will be considerably affected, meaning your audience may not be able to see the image clearly! In these circumstances we would recommend having LED/LCD screens in a marquee to display your content. These screens produce a brighter image and so will work better in these situations. Our LED screens come with built in media players so you can play your photos or videos straight to the screen via USB reducing the cables that are visible to the audience, alternatively you can display your content via VGA/HDMI through a laptop connection.

    I like your recommendation to use LED/LCD screens instead of projector screens for events. Like you said, projector screens are hard to see because any light can interfere. Another great benefit is that LED screens are usually more energy efficient as well.

    I’m glad I came across your blog about wedding audiovisual. I couldn’t agree more with what you said about how the wedding speeches are often a much-anticipated part of the day. It’s a failure for me when someone is trying to give a good speech, and yet people cant’ him properly. My parent’s 25th anniversary is happening next month. I want to make sure that everything is ready, most especially the peieces of equipment that will be used in the reception. Thanks for your tips about audiovisual.
